AFM New Racer School

AFM New Racer School

Pacific Track Time has been approved by the American Federation of Motorcycles (AFM) to host their New Racer School. This course is for riders looking to achieve their competition race license certification.

The AFM is one of the most popular road racing organizations in California. This club has been around for over 50 years and is considered the fastest amateur road racing organization in the country. The AFM has produced some of the fastest racers and riders in the country and consists of 13 classes varying from the 250 Production entry level to all-out Open Superbikes.

The first step in getting your racing license is as simple as enrolling in one of Pacific Track Time's approved NRS courses. You can sign-up for one of these designated events HERE.

When the Pacific Track Time NRS event date arrives you will go through registration, have your bike tech-inspected, and attend the 8:15 riders meeting as you would a normal track day. Directly after the riders meeting you will proceed to the classroom with one of PTT's trained staff members, and AFM racer & board member, for approximately 2 hours of lessons followed by a written test.

NRS students will then be sent "on-course" wearing a brightly colored belt (provided by PTT), to identify students from other track riders, and ride the track as one would a normal event. However, you will be monitored by our on-track instructors throughout the day and may be picked for additional on-track education.

Students will then go through a riding evaluation by one of our official AFM instructors**. Riding evaluation times and student-instructor pairing is arranged by your classroom instructor and you will be notified with ample time prior to the evaluation.

At the end of the day there will be several practice "race" starts to give NRS students an idea of what real race starts feel like and to better prepare you for your first of many races!

Providing you pass the written test, riding evaluation, and don't crash, you will be given a certificate of successful completion and we will forward your information to AFM licensing after the event. The AFM will then send you a hard copy license, the current season's rulebook along with any additional information necessary.

Congratulations! You've now entered an elite group as a motorcycle racer with a competition license that was approved by some of the fastest AFM'ers in the club!

You will need to join the AFM by acquiring an application packet HERE. You can apply before or after you take the NRS, but please note, you must become an AFM member within 6 months after passing NRS or you will be required to take the course again. An Annual License fee is $140 and Half Year License is $80 after June 30, 2009. Any additional information can be obtained on the AFM website HERE.

**Pacific Track Time has selected the same qualified Instructors the AFM uses for their school. Many of them are the AFM Top Ten Plate holders, Class Champions and AMA Pro Licensed racers.
